Today is May 30th or better known as Trinta di mei. 51 years ago on this day, the refinery workers in Curaçao went on a strike to fight for racial equality and to show their discontent with the shrinking economy.

Today is a good moment to reflect on our past and crystalize our vision for the future. In this interview, Steven Coutinho shares his insights from decades working in the Caribbean region and researching the major roadblocks for the local societies to flourish.

He notes that the main problem in our region is the hierarchy that is conditioned into our society. Traditionally we've had a very top down hierarchy with a strong Alpha on top who provides the followers with safety in exchange for power.
